Arts Center plans Mardi Gras
Come join the fun at the Randolph County Community Arts Center’s fundraising Mardi Gras Dinner and Dance Party from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 8. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a buffet of authentic Cajun food prepared from traditional Louisiana recipes as well as celebratory beverages. Music and dancing will follow until 10 p.m. Proceeds from the evening will benefit programming at the Arts Center.
Art Center volunteers will prepare traditional Louisiana cuisine under the expert direction of local Cajun cook, Judi Smith. Smith has assisted prize-winning cook Jackie Miller during the Cajun Week cooking class at Augusta. She also helped prepare fare for the traditional Mardi Gras celebration with Miller in Iota, La. In addition, arts center board member Gene Boyer will be preparing his reknowned “best gumbo in the North.”
Local musicians Judy Condon, Tom Hoffman and Bob Smakula, better known as Zig et Zag, will provide music. All are longtime Cajun musicians who have played with and studied under Cajun musicians at Augusta, in Louisiana, and elsewhere. There will be dance instruction throughout the evening for those who are new to the Cajun two-step.
Come warm up with spicy foods and dancing – just what you need for snowy February nights. Tickets are available in the Arts Center office and by phone at 304-637-2355.
