Barbour County Winter Fair kicks off today

Wooden crafts, baskets, leather goods, candles and much more will be available at the 2013 Barbour County Winter Fair today and Saturday.

Winter Fair hours are 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Crafters will be set up to sell their goods beginning at 8:30 a.m. both days.

Kids day activities will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those activities will include woodworking projects by Raube McDaniel, games and crafts. A fire truck will be on hand during that time to educate kids about fire safety.

Stool & Chair Bottoms will once again be taught both days. Bring your chair or stool, purchase the materials and learn how to put a new bottom or back in it.

Basket classes also will be offered both days. To sign up for basket classes, call Lara Lawrence at 304-457-2375.

Other activities during the fair will be the silent auction, raffles and miscellaneous games. Many area businesses have provided prizes for the games and silent auction.

Barb Wolfe, West Virginia University program assistant, will be checking the accuracy of pressure canner dial gauges from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday. There will be cake walks every hour Saturday.

The kitchen will be open both days from 8:30 am to closing. The menu will include the pork sandwiches, soup, beans and cornbread, hot dogs, nachos and baked goods.
