Girl Scouts visit St. Brendan Catholic Church

Girl Scout Sunday is the religious observance celebrating the rich diversity of belonging to the Girl Scouts of America.

On March 10, scouts from Elkins Troop 5041 donned their uniforms and helped distribute bulletins and present gifts at St. Brendan Catholic Church. Present and past Girl Scouts were recognized by The Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs.

Each Girl Scout has the opportunity to attend her place of worship and be recognized as a Girl Scout. Girl Scouts week is celebrated each March, beginning with Girl Scout Sunday. It always includes the Girl Scouts birthday of March 12, which commemorates the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization’s first girl members in Savannah, Ga.

The troop will sell Girl Scout cookies at St. Brendan Church from 4:30 to 7 p.m. each Friday of Lent, in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry.
