Wesleyan to host Sprint for the Spectrum
West Virginia Wesleyan College’s WE LEAD Children and Youth, in conjunction with Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, has scheduled a 5k walk/run to benefit the Special Olympics of Upshur County and Autism Speaks on Sunday.
Participants will be splashed with a different color every kilometer of the race, so organizers ask that all participants wear white or the given event shirt and shorts, and they should be prepared to get some color on their clothing. There will be water and snacks provided after the event.
The event will begin with registration at 11:30 a.m. at the fountain oval on the college’s campus. The race will begin at 1:10 p.m., with speakers Susan O’Dell with the Special Olympics and Morgan Hobbs with Autism Speaks and Alpha Xi Delta to follow. Autism awareness and Special Olympics items will be sold to help raise money for the organizations. There also will be prizes for the top runners, including a $100 Sheetz gift certificate.
The schedule of events includes:
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Registration; raffles opened; and runners to checkpoint
12:30 p.m.: First wave sent off
12:40 p.m.: Second wave sent off
