Five inducted into Pi Gamma Mu

Five new members recently were inducted into the Chapter of Pi Gamma Mu, International Honor Society in Social Science, at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

New members include Cassie Cline, a senior psychology major from Parkersburg; Stacy Karickhoff, a junior psychology major from Buckhannon; Tyler McWhorter, a junior environmental studies and economic major from Weston; Chris Reich, a junior criminal justice and sociology major from Lost Creek; and Briana Shockey, a junior psychology and political science major from Belington.

Reich will assume the position of president, taking over for Maggie Jones, a senior environmental studies and political science major from Elkins. McWhorter will take over the duties as vice president; and Shockey was named the group’s secretary-treasurer.

Membership to Pi Gamma Mu is open to qualified undergraduate students involved in social sciences. To qualify for membership, a student must have junior or senior standing, be in the top 35 percent of the class, and have a B or better average in at least 20 semester hours of social science classes such as political science, psychology, criminal justice, history or economics.

Pi Gamma Mu, founded in 1924, now has more than 250,000 members in 150 chapters located at colleges in the United States and abroad. The purpose of the society is to encourage academic excellence in the social sciences, promote social service and develop leadership skills among its members.
