Buckhannon to host Festival Fridays

Summer is heating up, and Festival Fridays is a big part of that in Buckhannon.

These events will take place every Friday from today until Sept. 27, between 5 and 8 p.m. in the newly renovated Jawbone Park.

Today, the band Soul Strippa, featuring Bryce O’Loughlin, promises to rock the house with funk and grooves, and the Buckhannon Elks Club celebrates Flag Day with a special ceremony.

Local growers and artisans will showcase their wares for visitors to peruse and buy. There will be a different band and style of music every week, as well as entertainment, kids’ activities and a selection of food vendors to satisfy all appetites. These are free, family-friendly events.

Festival Fridays is one of the many projects of Create Buckhannon, a local citizens’ group that meets weekly at CJ Maggie’s restaurant to brainstorm ideas for improving the community. Projects in the works include a walking/biking trail and renovation of the historic Latham House, begun circa 1851, reportedly the oldest residence still standing in Buckhannon, and painting the traffic light posts black. The Thursday meetings at noon are open to the public. Lunch is provided for a $7 donation.

Anyone interested in being a vendor or supporting Festival Fridays should contact Loretta Dawson at ljdawson@suddenlink.net.
