Public welcomed to harvest party

The Beverly Heritage Center will host a Harvest Lawn Party from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. This community event will feature free food and admission to the Beverly Heritage Center museum, and a chance to share old Beverly photographs and memories. History Hitting the Road!, a traveling historical program out of Jackson’s Mill, will be presenting an interactive heritage crafts demonstration for children beginning at noon. This event is free and open to the public.

History Hitting the Road! is an educational and engaging heritage arts program supported by WVU Extension Services. The program features demonstrations of various aspects of frontier life, and emphasizes hands-on learning. Children and adults can try their hand at tasks like shelling and grinding corn, dipping candles, weaving, woodworking and paper marbling. Demonstrations will begin at noon and last throughout the afternoon until 4 p.m.

The community is invited to bring and share old photographs, newspaper clippings or memories of Beverly for use in the BHC archives and future exhibits. Volunteers will have a digital scanner set up inside the BHC gallery, and photographs will be returned after they have been scanned.

A complimentary lunch will be provided by the Beverly Heritage Center and will include hot dogs with chili, various side dishes and beverages. Food will be served beginning at 12:30 p.m. and last until supplies run out. Side dishes will feature vegetables harvested from the Beverly Community Garden, a recent project of Beverly OnTrac.

“This community gathering coincides nicely with end of the harvest season,” said Darryl DeGripp, executive director of the Beverly Heritage Center.

BHC encourages guests to bring lawn games, such as horseshoes, corn hole or croquet, as well as acoustic musical instruments.
