Blackwater Mojo to release new EP during release party

Elkins-based blues duo Blackwater Mojo will release a new EP, entitled “Stomp & Holler! Live from Sun Studio,” at a concert and release party at El Gran Sabor at 8 p.m. Friday.

The new EP features tracks recorded in a live setting at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, Tenn., and will be available at the release party.

The EP features Erin Young, a powerful and dynamic lead vocalist, and Seth Young, a slide guitarist turned one-man rhythm section. Blackwater Mojo seamlessly interweaves the raw emotion of the delta blues with the warmth and richness of an old-time string band.

Not to be confused with preservationists, their unapologetic approach to American roots music makes them sound at once vintage and modern. The Youngs have been creating music together for more than 10 years. The couple met in 2003 while working as house musicians for a popular theater in Cincinnati, Ohio. Three years later they wed and while traveling on their honeymoon to Rapa Nui (Easter Island) they were invited by local musicians to lead a blues jam.

This husband-and-wife team has since toured the world, delighting audiences with their ability to stay true to their roots while simultaneously blending and crossing

genres.

Last year was a breakout year for the band: following the release of their first album “Cold Holler,” Blackwater Mojo was selected by the West Virginia Blues Society to represent their chapter at the International Blues Competition in Memphis, Tenn.

The release event is free and open to the public.
