New Vision honors Pope

PHILIPPI – New Vision Renewable Energy, in cooperation with St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, is giving Pope Francis the 2013 New Vision Ambassador of Light Award for bringing hope and inspiration to the world and his work with the care of Earth.

New Vision’s president, Ruston Seaman, met recently with Father Jim O’Conner and officials at St. Elizabeth’s to sign letters to the Pope explaining the award.

A pre-assembled New Vision solar light also will be sent for the Pope’s personal use or to donate to a family in need. The light contains LED light strips, 3M solar mirrored film, a lithium ion battery and a 10-watt solar panel. It is encased in a box/briefcase. The box also contains a water filtration bag.

Seaman, with the help of Cody Freeman, a youth trained in assembling lights, demonstrated to the group at St. Elizabeth’s how the solar light and water filtration bag work.

Many of New Vision’s 1,200 solar-powered lights are in at least 28 countries, including the United States. The company’s latest project is providing solar-powered lights to families in the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan last fall.
