Corridor H Authority rep set to speak

ELKINS – A representative from the Corridor H Authority will provide an update on the efforts to complete the highway during a meeting Wednesday.

The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly meeting is slated for 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Randolph County Community Arts Center, located at 2 Park St. in Elkins. The event is sponsored by the Randolph County Development Authority.

The guest speaker will be Curtis Wilkerson of Orion Strategies, speaking on behalf of the Corridor H. Authority. His presentation will include the findings from the economic impact study sponsored by the Corridor H Authority and the change in policy and politics in Virginia about the highway.

Corridor H in West Virginia is scheduled to be 75 percent complete by later this year, and with the announcement of the next section to be constructed, the total will come to 87 percent, officials said.

The Corridor H Authority sponsored an economic impact study to be conducted on completing Corridor H by 2020. This analysis estimates that completing Corridor H by 2020 would result in an additional $1.25 billion to the economy of West Virginia when compared to the highway being completed by 2036.

Additional information about the event is available by calling the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce at 304-636-2717.
