Roundhouse Rumble 5K Run/Walk set
The fourth annual Roundhouse Rumble 5K Run/Walk will take place at 10 a.m. on May 10 at Riverbend Park in Elkins.
The event is hosted by and benefits Mountain State Girls on the Run. The 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk is open to any and all who would like to participate and support the Mountain State Girls on the Run program.
Registration is $20 with race day registration available from 8:30-9:45 a.m. at the pavilion in Riverbend Park. Pre-registration is encouraged and the registration form can be downloaded at mountainstategotr.org/races/roundhouserumble/
The 5K course begins and ends in Riverbend Park looping around both Glendale Park and Riverbend Park, through the Industrial Park and across the Tygart Valley River before returning through Glendale Park. Ample parking is available. The course is flat and runner friendly, and provides lots of opportunities for spectators to cheer on the participants. Strollers and well-behaved dogs are welcomed.
The Spring 2014 Girls on the Run program participants will take part in the race to celebrate the fitness that they have worked so hard to attain. There are prizes for top finishers, and fruit, drinks and homemade baked goods will be available after the race. There will be a happy hair station where kids of all ages can get painted up with colored hair spray and temporary tattoos before the race. We always have a good time and we invite the whole community to come out and run or walk with the girls, or to cheer them along, as they cover the 3.1- mile course.
All race proceeds will benefit the Mountain State Girls on the Run scholarship program. To volunteer to help on race day or for more information, contact Katie at email@example.com or 304-823-2960.
Mountain State Girls on the Run (MSGOTR) has served the communities in Randolph, Barbour and Tucker counties since 2007. Additionally, we have supported programs in Upshur, Pocahontas and Fayette Counties. Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grades.
The mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The program uses the power of running to provide girls with the tools to celebrate their bodies, honor their voices, recognize their gifts, and activate their personal power. The hope is that every girl believes and can say, “I belong just the way I am.”
MSGOTR is an affiliate council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996, by Molly Barker, a visionary Ironman triathlete. Today, there are over 190 locations across the U.S. & Canada, with new locations added each year. The vision of Girls on the Run is a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
MSGOTR is a nonprofit entity that relies on community donations and volunteers to support our programs. If you are interested in being a part of this life-changing program through coaching, sponsorship, or a donation, please contact Katie at firstname.lastname@example.org.
