Upshur women to celebrate World Day of Prayer Friday

BUCKHANNON – Church Women United of Buckhannon/Upshur County will meet at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church on Florida Street to celebrate the annual World Day of Prayer.

This special day will feature speaker Amanda Teodoro of the First Baptist Church. Teodoro is a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in education.

She is presently heading the Mothers of Preschoolers program at the church. MOPS offers mothers and their young children opportunities for coming together for early childhood learning, creative play, socialization and sharing of good practices in early childhood learning. This program serves as a support to mothers and is open to all mothers with their preschool children in our county.

Teodoro will lead the Church Women United in a program on prayer. Officials encourage all women of Upshur County to come and share this day to learn how to sustain prayer life and to see how our prayers affect those in our world. Those who know Teodoro will want to come and hear this quiet yet dynamic speaker.

As a part of this program, members of CWU are encouraged to bring offerings of personal hygiene items to this meeting to be donated to Crosslines, the local ecumenical help agency. Items needed are feminine supplies, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo and deodorant. These items are in very short supply and unfortunately SNAP funds (food stamps) may not be used for these necessities.

Church Women United is a worldwide organization dedicated to bringing all women of faith together for a common thread of sisterhood, ecumenism and faith and action to bring Christ to the world. The theme for 2014 is “We are in God’s Hands and We are God’s Hands.”

Meetings throughout the year will be focused on this theme.

Local leaders of CWU Buckhannon/Upshur County are President Mary Ellen Biller of First Baptist Church, vice president Jalna Jones of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, secretary Kathy Vance of First Baptist Church and treasurer Eloise Tenney of Reger Chapel United Methodist Church.

Please join in at 1 p.m. Friday; refreshments will be served.
