Arts Center welcomes new instructor

New instructor Dani Cade is offering several classes for the Randolph County Community Arts Center’s late spring and summer sessions.

Cade was born in Kerrville, Texas, and completed her studies at Marshall University, obtaining a BFA degree in 2005. She spent the following two years implementing the art program for CHM in Pocahontas County. Since then, she has been an independent artist privately commissioning her work. In addition, she has been a teaching artist for ArtsBank since 2010 and is active in the art community in Elkins.

Classes Cade will teach include:

“Painting for Toddlers” begins May 2. This special parent-child class might be your childs’ first educational program. Toddlers will learn about color, texture, shape and more while experimenting with non-toxic paints and materials that enlighten their sensory activities. Parents and caregivers learn what they can do to help nurture creativity. Class will meet every Friday, from May 2 to May30, from 10-11 a.m. The event is open to little ones ages 1 to 3, and the cost of the class is $50. Parents and/or caregivers are required to attend.

– Students will explore art with projects based on the classic children’s author Eric Carle during the “Magical World of Eric Carle!” Introducing how to draw and paint focusing on color while exploring concepts presented in the books, such as metamorphoses, time, on, below and above. Mixed media as it applies! Class will meet every Friday from May 2 to May 30, from 4 – 5 p.m. Open to kids ages 5 to 9, the cost of the class is $50. Parents and/or caregivers may attend.

– Sign up for “Multi Media Art in India” and explore the culture and art of the country! Students will use a variety of media to create projects which focus on color, such as Mandalas, Warli Art, Mehndi, flower stringing, and more. Enjoy some Indian music and tasty snacks to create a more invigorating experience. The class is open to students ages 13 and up, and will meet every Wednesday from 24 p.m., July 2 through July 30. The cost of the class is $120.

– The “Watercolor is Progressive” course offers basic but stimulating lessons designed to sharpen skills, expand imagination and find expression. Understanding materials, color, and applying technique, students learn from what they “see” as opposed to “what they know.” Learn to paint from still life and nature, while engaging in the sense of freedom that watercolors demand. The class meets Thursdays and Fridays from 6 – 8 p.m., July 10 through 25. Open to teens and adults, and beginners are encouraged. The cost of the class is $150.
