4-H Club holds recycling event

The Dorcas Chieftains 4-H Club of Grant County held the annual recycling event April 11 and 12 at the Tri-County Fairgrounds livestock barn.

The club sponsors this annual event for the people in the local area who want to participate in recycling.

The club collected newspaper, catalogs, magazines, hard and softbound books, cardboard and shredded and office paper. The public brought their recyclables to the fairgrounds and members unloaded and sorted paper products and aluminum cans. The recyclables were then loaded into bins that were provided by C & K Salvage of Rig.

The club gathered a grand total of 16,245 pounds of paper products and cardboard, along with 105 pounds of aluminum cans. This was an increase of 10,000 pounds from the 2013 event.

In addition to C&K Salvage, the 4-H club would like to thank Jeff Slack of the Region 8 Solid Waste Authority, the Grant County Press and the many people who brought their recyclables.
