Strawberry Festival quilt exhibit offered

The 37th West Virginia Strawberry Festival Quilt Exhibit, sponsored by the Upshur County Community Educational Outreach Society and the Quilters at Heart Guild, will be held Thursday through May 17 at the Rockefeller Center at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon.

The Strawberry Festival Craft Show will be on the floor of the gym, and the Quilt Show will be on the balcony on the elevator side.

Those who’d like to exhibit items may bring them to the Rockefeller Center on Monday from noon to 4 p.m., or Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You do not have to be a member of the Quilt Guild or a CEOS organization to participate. Seventeen categories are available, and you may enter one item per category.

Monetary prizes will be given to the following: $50 for Best of Show, $50 for People’s Choice and $20 for first place in each category.

King’s Choice, Queen’s Choice, Teen Queen’s Choice, Judge’s Choice and second- and third-place quilts will be awarded ribbons. Antique quilts will not be judged.

The Exhibit will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 17.

All items must be exhibited for the duration of the Festival, and then may be picked up from 5:30-6:30 p.m. May 17. Officials will not be responsible for items not picked up.

Officials recognize that quilts take many hours to complete, so they will take all precautions to ensure their safety. For example, no food or drinks will be permitted in the show. However, the Strawberry Festival, the CEOS origination and the Quilt Guild cannot assume liability for lost, damaged or stolen goods.
