Philippi Library announces Reading Camp
The Philippi Public Library will host a three-week “Fizz, Boom, Read!” Summer Reading Camp and Summer Feeding Program on Mondays through Fridays beginning July 7.
The library is also announcing the beginning of “Read For It!” a unique fundraiser for the library. The library expects approximately 30 children to participate in the camps.
“Read For It!” is designed to encourage the children to read, to keep a record of their reading during the camp and to raise money to support the
The library receives tax-based funding from the city of Philippi, the Barbour County Commission and Barbour County Board of Education. It also receives tax-based funding from the state of West Virginia called Grant-in-Aid. The library has to match the State Grant-in-Aid in order to receive the full amount every fiscal year.
The library is particularly important to the children of the community and those who participate in the camps will be helping to raise money for the library that they love. “Read For It!” asks individuals and businesses in the community to pledge money for each book the children read for the three weeks of “Fizz, Boom, Read!”
The money generated from this fund raiser will go toward the library’s team in the Tucker Community Foundation’s “Run For It” race, set for Sept. 27 in Davis.
Team members representing the Philippi Public Library will be walking and running for this annual event to raise awareness and funds for the library. The money pledged to “Read For It!” hopefully will be multiplied ,as it is used to leverage additional funds through “Run For It!” Last year, the library received $11,321 from “Run For It!”
Brochures and registration forms are available at the library and are being sent to the community through the mail.
