IOOF hosts Memorial Golf Tournament
ELKINS – Canton Tucker No. 8 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) of Elkins will host the inaugural Bob Fisher Memorial Golf Tournament Sept. 27 at Raven Golf Course at Snowshoe Mountain with registration and lodging available on Sept. 26.
The tournament will kick off with registration and A silent auction starting at 8 a.m. Sept. 27, followed by shotgun starting at 11 a.m.
The tournament is named after Bob Fisher, a past state IOOF member who enjoyed working in communities throughout West Virginia and neighboring states to help recruit for the organization while providing assistance where possible.
“Bob was an outstanding member and lived every day for Odd Fellowship,” said Maj. Gen. Emil Suder, coordinator of the event. “We want to remember him and this is the best way possible, and the event echoes his love and passion for assistance and counseling for diabetic children.”
A portion of the event’s proceeds will go to Camp Kno-Koma of West Virginia, a diabetic camp for children ages 7 to 15. In the last few years, approximately 125 children have benefited from the camp, which takes place in July each year.
The average cost per camper is $675 but with the assistance from the IOOF and other organizations, campers can attend for approximately $230.
“We are pleased to be part of the success of Camp Kno-Koma,” said W. Larry Ferguson, past grand patriarch from Elkins. “We have supported the camp since 1994 and have raised more than $150,000 for the campers.”
