WVWC makes Best College list

The Washington Monthly College Guide has ranked West Virginia Wesleyan College as the 27th Best Baccalaureate College in 2014.

The magazine based its rating on Wesleyan’s contribution to the public good in three categories: social mobility, research and service.

The publication covers politics, government, culture and media. Wesleyan has always been known for its commitment to service, said Rochelle Long, director of public relations.

More than 80 percent of its students are actively involved in projects that are coordinated by the Center for Community Engagement and Leadership Development. The CCE offers leadership certification courses to enable students to gain more skills that will benefit them in their careers and volunteer efforts.

Wesleyan began its academic year on Monday, with an enrollment that is expected to surpass 1,500 students for the first time since 2002. The total includes over 465 new students, the second largest entering class in a decade.

The private residential college is in the process of completing over $7.5 million in construction projects that include the O’Roark Nordstrom Welcome Center and renovations to classrooms, residence halls, the soccer field and the multi-purpose athletic

complex.

Wesleyan offers 47 undergraduate majors and graduate programs in athletic training, business administration, education, English, creative writing and nursing.
