Members of the month announced
PHILIPPI – Danny Elmore, and Jeff Rogers are the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Members of the Month in September. Elmore is the manager of Barbour Lanes, the long-standing county bowling facility. Rogers is the new controller at Alderson Broaddus University.
Elmore was born in Yokosuka, Japan, raised in Baltimore, and graduated from Clover Hill High School in Midlothian, Virginia. He was employed by Yellow Freight in Maybrook, New York, was manager of McDonald’s in Ocean City, Maryland, and was the manager of the Elkins Recreation Center for 16 years before joining Barbour Lanes in 2011.
Elmore was a 2nd class petty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years and took part in the Cuban Refugee Sea Lift, rescuing Cubans who were adrift in the ocean while attempting to flee to the United States. An avid bowler, Elmore has bowled 34 perfect 300 games.
“Barbour Lanes has openings in several ongoing adult bowling leagues on Mondays and Thursdays and a Senior League on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Youth Leagues start Oct. 28 with sign-ups scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 21. We also have Glow Bowling on Saturdays and open bowling Thursdays through Sundays. And don’t forget our fresh-baked brick oven pizzas,” Elmore said. The popular facility is available for birthday parties on Saturdays and Sundays.
Rogers is a Philippi native and graduate of Philip Barbour High School and Alderson Broaddus College, where he earned a bachelor of arts in accounting and mathematics. He also is a graduate of the West Virginia School of Banking at Marshall University and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Rogers is a past president and CEO of BC Bank, former county administrator of Barbour County and was a senior accountant and CFO of Tahoe Management in Buckhannon. He is a former member of the board of directors of several organizations, including the Philippi Convention & Visitors Bureau, Barbour County Development Authority, Broaddus Hospital and the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce which he served as president. He also was a coach and treasurer for Philippi Little League and Philippi Youth Basketball. He is the current public address announcer for Philip Barbour High School football and Alderson Broaddus University football and basketball games.
Rogers said, “I officially started working at ABU this year on July 1, but my ties to the university go back many years. I have always been drawn to this beautiful campus, whether experiencing an athletic event, attending classes or working with students and peers in my current position. The start of the fall term has brought nearly 1,100 students to our vibrant campus which is full of activity.
