PBHS’s Furby honored
Gerald Furby, a teacher at Philip Barbour High School, was presented the 2013 Directors Special Award by the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce during its recent banquet meeting.
Furby was congratulated by banquet speaker Larry Cavallo, vice president of CONSOL Energy, and outgoing Chamber President Brenda Hunt, from Heart & Hand Ministries.
In making the presentation, Hunt said, “This award recognizes a truly outstanding and active leader and business instructor at Philip Barbour. For many years, Mr. Furby has prepared students to assist with our banquet and he is key to the success of the Chamber’s annual Career Day at his school.
“He not only advises the Future Business Leaders of America Club and the Student Council, coaches freshman boy’s basketball, and is the volunteer golf coach, he somehow has time to serve as the Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop 63.
“We salute Gerald Furby for his heroic and tireless dedication to serving young people and students, including those specializing in the field of business.”
