HAS?students take to the outdoors

At Highland Adventist School in Elkins, when rainy weather caused a wilderness hike to be canceled recently, the staff provided an interesting alternative.

“One important part of our program is our outdoor recreational skills training program,” said Cheryl Jacko, principal. “Our students had looked forward to our planned hike on the Allegheny Trail east of Elkins. However, we were rained out, so our parents and teachers quickly put together a bonfire and outdoor scavenger hunt on the school campus.”

Students built a huge bonfire, made s’mores and hiked all over and around the school property hunting and photographing things listed on the scavenger hunt list.

“Despite the change of location, our students still enjoyed a great outdoor adventure,” Jacko said. “We had a wonderful time!”

Highland Adventist School provides an innovative Christian curriculum for students in grades K-12.
