State chess championship to mark 75th anniversary
The 75th annual West Virginia State Chess Championship will be Aug. 31-Sept. 2 at the Holiday Inn Express, 50 Martin St., in Elkins. Registration will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Rounds will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2.
The annual West Virginia Chess Association business meeting is slated for Saturday, Aug. 31, at 9 a.m. Byes are set at a maximum of two per player. Half-point bye requests must be made prior to start of tournament. The entry fee is $50 on site, but admission is free to observers; WVCA membership is required ($10).
