Boating safety course offered by WVDNR

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will hold a Boating Education Class for Randolph and Pocahontas counties at the Interstate Hardwoods Conference Room in Bartow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 31.

This is a seven-hour course and students must attend all sessions to be certified. In 1998 West Virginia passed legislation that requires any person born after Dec. 31, 1985 to successfully complete an approved Boating Education Course before operating a motorboat or PWC in the State of West Virginia.

The course is open to the public and is free of charge. Any age individual may attend, however only students at least 11 years of age that have passed the test will receive a certificate of completion. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.

Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. If you would like to register or need additional information, please contact the WV DNR District 3 office at 304-924-6211, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
