Parish House seeking donations for Christmas in July dinner
Summertime is not often the time one thinks about Christmas dinner, yet coordinators in Upshur County are already preparing for the annual Community Christmas Dinner. Over 400 free meals were served during a traditional Christmas dinner at Chapel Hill in 2012. Neighbors dined in, a record number of takeouts were prepared, and volunteers delivered meals in Upshur County to those who weren’t able to travel to the church. No one was turned away.
Due to the generosity of donations from last year’s fundraiser, the coordinators were able to afford soup to serve in addition to the turkey, ham, green beans, baked apples, homemade corn casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy and cranberry sauce. Over 65 volunteers dedicated part of their Christmas day to help prepare food, clean, deliver meals, wash dishes and to socialize with the many people who came to dine.
Do you share a desire to help this year with the Christmas In July – Light the Way fundraiser for 2013? Your tax-deductible donation will help to purchase the food necessary for the meal. Coordinators realize economic times are tough but want you to know that your donation will help, “light the way” for your neighbors to enjoy a special meal during a special time of the year.
Financial contributions can be made payable to the Upshur Parish House and mailed to: 68 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Please note on the check, “2013 Christmas Dinner.”
