Gandy Dancer entering eighth season
ELKINS — The Gandy Dancer Theatre in Elkins is in its eighth season this year. G’na Stephens, the CEO of the Gandy Dancer Theatre, stated that, “Since opening, we have seen thousands of people walk through these doors as visitors and walk out as family.”
Family is a noted theme, even within the “Mountain Memories Show Band” cast. There’s the husband and wife duo Nina Sharp, who is the lead performer and producer of the Mountain Memories Show Band, and Rocky Hebb, their featured performer and vocalist.
Jamie Queen, who plays the infamous Penny Merle in the Tribute to Musical Legends show, is Sharp’s sister. Other band members Ralph Bennett (owner and vocals), David Stump (drummer and band leader), Clint Davidson (bass player), Greg Thompson (vocalist, fiddle and keyboard player) and newcomers Kevin Jones (lead guitar and vocals) and Hannah Shiflett (lead dancer and vocals) feel as if they are family as well. This blended yet diverse cast is as different as they are alike and bring many different styles to the stage while continuing a strong continuity. Another part of the show is the ever-popular Gandy Dancers squad that features the area’s finest dancers, Kayla Carr, Macie Queen, Summer Channell, Jaden Pratt and Molly Mongold.
The Gandy Dancer Theatre is an award-winning theatre with accolades from the American Bus Association as the 2017 and 2018 “Best of the Best.” Out of more than 3,800 attractions throughout the U.S. and Canada, only 46 were chosen for this award. They were also chosen as “Best Live Theatre” in West Virginia and No. 1 on TripAdvisor for three years in a row.
They offer two shows each week during their regular season and almost six nights a week during their peak season in the fall. The Premier show has something for everyone. Talented singers perform styles from the 50s to the present day, including country, gospel, patriotic music, rock n’ roll and oldies.
These amazing performers offer a full variety of music with family-friendly comedy and the ever-beautiful Gandy Dancers. On opposite nights you can see an additional show, the “Tribute to Musical Legends” dinner show. Enjoy a jammed packed show of all the artists you’ve come to love from the past to today. Kenny and Dolly, Waylon and Willie, Frank Sinatra, Sonny and Cher and the one and only Elvis! Each show offers a completely different meal, so guests can enjoy two nights of dinner and entertainment.
Throughout the year, other shows to see are the Murder Mystery Dinners, Aloha from Elvis show, the Mountain Memories Christmas show, Christmas with Elvis and the Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Dinner Show. Dates can be found on the website www.GandyDancerTheatre.com.
