PHILIPPI — More than 20 stockholders of the Barbour Country Club recently hosted its annual meeting at the Medallion Restaurant in Philippi to hear annual reports and elect a new board of directors.

The stockholders elected nine of their members to serve as the club’s board of directors in 2019, including Bob Baughman, Bill Bowers, Hayward McGee, Bill Mick, George Simon, Rich Spotloe, Scott Sublett, Reg Trefethen, and Greg Zimmerman.

Moderator Reg Trefethen presented the club’s annual financial report and was pleased to announce that the Barbour Country Club is now debt-free, thanks to several generous financial donations, the sale of timber, and the voluntary efforts of many volunteers.

Trefethen reported that a new metal roof has been installed on the club house, the greens and fairways mowed, and the debris which resulted from a major storm last year has been taken away. The Amish community has been very helpful, he said, and have plans to completely clean the club house structure.

With the help of a greens consultant, he said, the course could be open for business this summer. Further contributions of time and money are still being sought, while the sale of additional stock may be still an option, he said. The Barbour Country Club is located on U.S. 119 south of Philippi and is open to the public. The mailing address is P.O. Box 432, Philippi, WV 26416.
