Bruce Robert Thompson of Sully will celebrate his 90th birthday April 2.
He was born into a very large family April 2, 1923, at Sully, the son of the late Dillon and Hettie Long Thompson.
He has 10 half brothers and half sisters: Charles Helmick, Arthur Helmick, Dickson Helmick, Tex Helmick, Carrie Helmick, Blake Thompson, Bland Thompson, Aletha Thompson, Mable Thompson and Leora Thompson. He also has nine full brothers and sisters: Lester Thompson, Seymour Thompson, Grace Lugo, Ruth Waybright, Ruby Cooper, Hugh Thompson, Betty Woodford, Frank Thompson and Bessie Miers.
On May 25, 1949, at Red House, Md., he married the former Ocie L. Vandevender. They will celebrate 64 years of marriage this year.
They have 11 children: William Thompson, Carol Thompson, Diana Crites, David Thompson, Kenneth Thompson, Barbara Worden, Donna Crickard, Stella Harvey, Jamie Kittle, Linda Thompson and Steven Thompson. They also have eight grandchildren: Christopher Crites, Shawn and Laura Thompson, Jessica and Angelica Harvey and Micah, Karlie and Emma Thompson; and two stepgrandchildren: James Summerfield and Heather Kittle.
Mr. Thompson has worked as a miner, logger, road builder and farmer, and he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He helped build and maintain the roads from Thornwood to Green Bank as well as the road from Sully to Jenningston, which are still used today. He also continues to run his farm, which is now in its fourth generation of operation, spanning 106 years.

Eugenia “Jeanie” Ware Brock will celebrate her 90th birthday March 19.
She was born at Mill Creek in 1923, the daughter of the late Rev. E.B. Ware.
She has two children, William “Bill” Brock and Nancy Williams and son-in-law, the Rev. Marshall Williams, all of Mill Creek; two grandchildren, Tom Williams of Mill Creek and Tim Williams of Welcome, N.C.; and four great-granddaughters, Taylor, Ridgley, Hannah and Madison.
Mrs. Brock graduated from Tygarts Valley High School in 1942. She was the postmaster in Mill Creek until she retired in 1985. She is a member of Point Mountain Union Mission Church in Monterville.
