Oscar Richard Malcomb

Oscar Richard Malcomb of Valley Bend will celebrate his 90th birthday with an open house June 22 at the Tygart Valley Fire Hall in Dailey from 2 to 5 p.m.

Malcomb was born June 25, 1923, in Helvetia, the oldest son of the late Oscar L. Malcomb and Minnie Betler Malcomb. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1946. He is a World War II veteran who served aboard the destroyers USS Bainbridge and USS Crosley APD 87 during wartime and on the USS Billy Mitchell after the war.

He married the former Joann Gay Bunner on Sept. 17, 1950. The Malcombs have lived in Valley Bend for 46 years. They have three children: Ronnie Richard Malcomb (wife Robin) of Elkins, Kerry Gay Wilson (husband Steve) of Elkins, and Andrew Dean Malcomb (wife Christy) of Valley Bend; and two grandchildren: Christina Lynn Kelly (husband Matt) of Morgantown, and Valerie Elizabeth Malcomb of Elkins.

Mr. Malcomb has two sisters, Carol Hill, of Illinois, and Joan Estep, of Indiana. One brother, Luther Malcomb, and three sisters, Virginia Zumbach, Mae Gillispie and Bernardine VanGilder, are deceased.
