Hazel Hart Hanger
Hazel Hart Hanger celebrated her 101st birthday Feb. 9 in her room at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center with her daughters, granddaughter and a special surprise friend, Joe Danger. Because of the flu, all her friends and relatives agreed another time would be better to celebrate her birthday.
Mrs. Hanger was born Feb. 9, 1917, on Chenoweth Creek, the daughter of the late Wade and Mabel Isner Hart. She had one brother, the late Arnold Wilson Hart.
On Oct. 16, 1939, she married the late Virgil C. “Ikey” Hanger.
They are the parents of three children, Rebecca Shomo Hintz, Mary Jane Bertelli and the late Bobby Hanger. She also has one grandson, Scott Shomo and wife, Danielle; three great-granddaughters, Brooks, Nicole and Khaleesi Shomo; one great-grandson, Christian Neal Shomo; one stepgranddaughter, Christina Bertelli Coleman; and a niece, Jeanne Gardner Hart, who made her home with the Hanger family.
Mrs. Hanger is a member of Elkins Church of God and Family Worship center, where she served as Sunday school secretary for around 70 years, until she retired. Her hobbies have included watching TV. She also loves McDonald’s.
