Mary Lou Roy
Mary Lou Roy will celebrate her 90th birthday with a celebration hosted by her children from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Gospel Light Tabernacle Church on Route 219.
Mrs. Roy was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Kingwood, the daughter of William Teets and Kathryn Johnson.
Mrs. Roy worked 20 years at Reidbord Brothers in Elkins and then worked in the housekeeping department at Davis & Elkins College for five years. After that, she worked cleaning private homes. She is known in the community for her active volunteering at the Elkins and Parsons Church of the Nazarene. She also volunteered for many years at Davis Medical Center until her retirement. Mrs. Roy now lives in an assisted living facility.
Mrs. Roy is the mother of Glenda (Ronald) Louk of Akron, Ohio, Terry (Judy) Hedrick of Lima, Ohio, Sue (Earl) Clayton of Akron, Ohio, Judy (Steve) Sisler of Elkins, Brenda (Gary) Shaffer of Elkins and William Paul Hedrick of Pennsylvania. She also has 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was a coal miner’s daughter and survived the Great Depression. When speaking of that, she would always say “my daddy would give me his food.” She knew how hard times were.
