EHS class of ‘56 hosts reunion

The Elkins High School class of 1956 recently hosted its 60th class reunion.

Harold and Julia Elbon and Bill Hartman hosted a Friday evening get together at Railyard Restaurant.

The group attended the Saturday afternoon Hall of Fame ceremony honoring the class of 1956 track team and the Franks Family Music Show in the evening.

Class members said their farewells and wished for safe travels for those from out of town at a Sunday brunch at Graceland Inn. The class voted to have a reunion next year.

The 1956 track team was honored by being the 22nd team inducted into the Hall of Fame. The high-scoring team dominated Big 10 track, winning all of its meets the three years the 1956 seniors participated. The 11 seniors on the 1956 team set 10 school records in the 1955 and 1956 seasons.

Those attending included Harold Elbon, Frances Hamrick Crickard, Sharon Channell Campbell, Margaret Schoonover Fassell, Anita Marstiller Hardesty, Deloris Rosier Wilfong, Mary Ann Leyland Gay, Doris Coccoran Williams, Bruce Haddix, Mike Ketterman Weese, Bill Wise, Mary Ginger McMannes, Mary Ann Heckel Cutter, Mary C. Heckel Dulaney, Barbara Gainer Whesell, Charles Piercy and Dick Blosser; second row, Gary Murphy, Kenny Riggleman, Warren Carr, Herb Marshall, Sylvester Fretwell, Mary Fallon McMahon, Jerry Lawrence, Bill Hartman, Ernestine Martin Wilson, Evelyn Wasmer Skinner and Kenny Lloyd.
