Upshur Lincoln Day Dinner slated

The Upshur County Republican Executive Committee will host its annual Lincoln Day Dinner Saturday at the Buckhannon Moose Lodge on North Kanawha Street.

A social hour will start at noon, followed by the dinner at 1 p.m. Tammy Linger will provide entertainment for the event. Awards to be given include Republican of the Year, the Volunteer of the Year and the Patriotism Award.

The speaker for dinner will be West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, who was elected Nov. 6. Morrisey is the first Republican to serve as attorney general in West Virginia since 1933. As a resident of Harpers Ferry, Morrisey also is the first attorney general from Jefferson County.

In practice since 1992, Morrisey worked on many high profile health care matters prior to serving as attorney general. He possesses a broad array of experience on regulatory issues like Medicare, Medicaid, policy, fraud and abuse investigations, legislative matters, strategic counseling and legal and policy challenges to federal statutes and regulations. He has handled administrative law, election law, public policy and several criminal defense matters during his 21-year legal career.

Morrisey graduated in 1989 from Rutgers University a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and a political science degree, both with high honors. He also earned a law degree from Rutgers Law School-Newark in 1992.

Between 1999 and 2004, Morrisey served as the deputy staff director and the chief health care counsel to the House of Representatives’ Energy and Commerce Committee, principal liaison for the White House, U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Morrisey worked as a partner and health care attorney at two large law firms from 2004-2012.

The Lincoln Day Dinner’s menu will include baked steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, salad, rolls, dessert, tea, coffee and milk. Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased by today.
