10 boys set to enter WVSF pageant
Ten boys will be vying for the honor of being a Junior King or Prince at the upcoming West Virginia Strawberry Festival’s Junior Royalty Pageant at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.
The pageant opens to the public at 1 p.m. March 9. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and younger.
Competing for the Junior King crown in the 12- and 13-year-old division are Adaryus Gillum and Andrew McDowell.
Gillum, 12, of Buckhannon, is the son of Jennifer and Eric Depoy and Ryan and Melanie Gillum. He is a sixth-grader at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School, and he enjoys basketball and being in the Wildlife Club.
Andrew Dowell, 12, of Buckhannon, is the son of Kelley Ryan. He is a fifth-grader at Tennerton Elementary School, and he is a member of the Boy Scouts. He enjoys soccer, camping, fishing, video games, golfing and bike riding.
Austin Reed, 10, of Tallmansville, is the lone entrant in the 10- to 11-year-old division. A fifth-grader at Tennerton Elementary School, he is the son of Donald and Sharon Reed.
He is a member of Cub Scouts Pack 128.
Competing in the 8- and 9-year-old division will be Bradley Helmick, Johnathan Levi Tomey and Owen Ross Caynor.
Caynor, 8, of Buckhannon, is the son of Theron and Brandy Caynor. He is a second-grader at Washington District Elementary School, and he enjoys karate, being on the swimming team, baseball, building with Legos and train tracks and playing with cars.
Tomey, 9, of Buckhannon, is the son of Arnold and Brandi Tomey. He is a third-grader at Brushy Fork Christian School, and he enjoys tae kwon do, mixed martial arts and riding four-wheelers.
Helmick, 9, of Volga, is the son of Brian and Beverly Helmick. He is a second-grader at Hodgesville Elementary School, and he enjoys Cub Scouts, soccer, gymnastics, swimming, tap and church.
Competing in the 6- and 7-year-old division are Austin James Shaffer and Broderick Elliott Bouscher.
Shaffer, 6, of Buckhannon, is the son of Jennifer and Michael Metzler. He is a kindergarten student at Buckhannon Academy Elementary School, and he enjoys playing T-ball, swimming, camping and playing outside.
Bouscher, 7, of Belington, is the son of Brent and Kayla Bouscher. He is a first-grader at Belington Elementary School, and he enjoys being in 4-H, playing soccer, reading, drawing and playing games.
Competing in the 4- and 5-year-old division are Kylen Julius Lee Rosencrance and William “Tres” Golden.
Rosencrance, 4, of Belington, is the son of Kyle Rosencrance and Karina Daugherty. He is a pre-kindergarten student in the Barbour County Head Start, and he enjoys being in the Ten Mile Ridge Runners 4-H, shooting his rifle, helping on the farm, playing and eating pasta salad.
Golden, 4, of Buckhannon, is the son of Billy Golden and Rhonda Keigley-Golden. He is a pre-kindergarten student at Tennerton Elementary School, and he enjoys building with blocks, drawing, dancing, castles and robots.
