A-B College prepares for spring cleaning

Alderson-Broaddus is looking for community members in need of helping hands for yard work and small home repairs.

The Office of Student Affairs is hosting Do Good Weekend April 26 to 28. On April 27, A-B students and faculty plan to volunteer in the community by assisting Philippi residents with spring cleaning, such as raking, gardening and small repairs. Do Good Weekend is an annual event for A-B, but this is the first year the college is incorporating a spring cleaning event.

Sarah Geist, community outreach coordinator, said A-B always is looking for ways to give back to the Philippi community.

“We’ve noticed that some of our elderly and disabled community members are unable to tend to their yards and homes, especially after Superstorm Sandy. So we’d love to take advantage of the beautiful spring weather and lend a helping hand,” Geist said.

Other events planned for Do Good Weekend include volunteering with Code Blue Youth Center, visiting Mansfield Place, hosting a Community U event on campus and a campus beautification project.

Anyone who needs assistance or knows of someone else who needs assistance for spring cleaning can contact Geist at geistsj@ab.edu or 304-457-6235.
