Multiple Easter activities slated

Looking for something eggs-traspecial to do this weekend?

Luckily, Easter activities abound throughout the region. So, whether you’re into uncovering brightly colored eggs, or celebrating the reason for the season, keep reading The Inter-Mountain has compiled the following list of holiday-related events for you and your family to frequent:


Holy Week services will begin at noon daily through Friday at First United Methodist Church on Kerens Avenue in Elkins. A luncheon provided by Church Women United will be served at 12:30 p.m.

Taize worship and communion will begin at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon.

Tennerton United Methodist Charge’s Easter week activities will begin with Maundy Thursday services at 6:30 p.m. at Tennerton United Methodist Church; Good Friday service at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Washington United Methodist Church; Watch Night Vigil at 7 p.m. Saturday at Tennerton United Methodist Church; and a Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at Mount Hope United Methodist Church. A breakfast will follow the Sunrise Service.


A choir tenebrae presentation, “Jesus, Light of the World,” will begin at 7 p.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Buckhannon.

Tenebrae choir presentation, “A Service of Darkness,” by Hal H. Hopson will begin at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon.

Weaver Nazarene Church’s play, “The Power of His Resurrection,” will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.


An Easter egg hunt will begin at 1 p.m. in Mill Race Park at Parsons.

An Easter egg hunt, hosted by the Buckhannon Lions Club, will begin at 11 a.m. at Buckhannon City Park on Park Street. Prizes and candy will be given away. For more information, call Matt Hymes, chairman, at 304-472-1475.

Blackwater Falls State Park’s annual Easter egg hunt begins today at 1:30 p.m. in Harold Walters Nature Center. This free event is for children up to seventh grade. Please bring your own basket or bag to hold eggs. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance so don’t forget the camera. An Easter dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Orchard Hall, beside Elkins High School. The dinner is free, and the Easter Bunny will make an appearance. There will be an Easter Sunrise Pageant at 7:13 a.m. Sunday in the Orchard beside Orchard Hall. A free breakfast will be served in Orchard Hall following the pageant.

An Easter egg hunt will begin at 1 p.m. along Gandy Road above Whitmer. Children ages newborn to 12 may participate.

An Easter party will begin at 1 p.m. at the Ellamore Recreation Center in Ellamore. Admission is free. Activities will include an Easter egg hunt and refreshments.

The annual Easter egg hunt will take place at 1 p.m. at the Roanoke Activity Plaza at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, just off exit 91 on Interstate 79. Bring the little ones out for an exciting Easter egg hunt – games will follow! For more information, call 304-269-8899.

A flashlight Easter egg hunt is set for 6:30 p.m. at Jawbone Park in Buckhannon. The New Community Church is organizing the hunt. The event will be for children ages 10 and younger. Children are asked to bring their own flashlights and baskets. There will be free snacks and thousands of eggs to find. Jawbone Park is located at the corner of Madison and Florida streets. An Easter sunrise service will begin at 7 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Buckhannon. Breakfast will be served following the service.

Urbancrest Baptist Church’s sunrise service will begin at 7 a.m.. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. A regular Easter service will follow at 10 a.m. The church is located at the intersection for Mt. Vernon Road and Route 250/219 near Beverly. This the official opening of the church.

A children’s Easter celebration will take place from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at First United Methodist Church at 315 Kerens Ave. in Elkins. Activities will include an Easter egg hunt, small group interactions and visits to several Biblical sites.

Note: The City of Elkins’ Easter egg hunt has been canceled due to weather issues. It will not be made up in 2013. A “monster” event is being planned for Easter 2014 that will feature more than 7,000 eggs, according to information from West Virginia Radio Corp.
