Auxiliary hosts April meeting
A joint American Legion dinner was served April 9 after which the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 7 members retired to their meeting room. The meeting was called to order by Connie Bailey, president. The opening prayer was given by Shirley Perry, chaplain. The pledge to the flag was led by Katrina Meyers, sergeant-at-arms, followed by the reading of the preamble.
Leona Goff presented the list of nominations for next year’s officers and asked for additional nominations from the floor; none were given. The vote will take place at next month’s meeting.
Delores Wilson read an extensive report on flag etiquette.
Loretta Dawson, who has completed the distribution of special books to area schools, reported that the superintendent of the Union District Schools had a suggestion she wished to discuss with for her next school project.
Poppy distribution was announced for the first weekend of May by Peggy Shreve, poppy chairman.
Strawberry desserts sales will again take place during festival week on May 17 and 18. Menu and workers will be further discussed at the next meeting.
In the absence of April Whitefield, Girls State Chairman, Bailey is accepting sponsorships for girls. Hopefully the Auxiliary will be able to send 20 girls to camp, as the group usually can.
The next meeting will be May 14.
