Tucker CVB garners award for its website

An honor from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals recently has been bestowed upon the Tucker County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The AVA Platinum Award was given to the CVB for the design of its website, The website, created by CVB officials in conjunction with Stonewall Marketing, was created to point visitors to the main winter destinations in the county – Canaan Valley Resort, Timberline Resort, White Grass Cross Country Touring Center and Blackwater Falls State Park.

A press release from the CVB says the audio-visual arts award was created to “recognize outstanding achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of media that is part of the evolution of digital communication.”

It says there were more than 2,000 entries from around the world for the 2013 competition.

Since November 2012, when the site was first opened, the press release says, it has received more than 5,700 unique visits.

Bill Smith, executive director of the CVB, spoke to The Inter-Mountain about the website.

“We wanted a clean, simple website,” he said, speaking about the CVBs collaboration with Stonewall Marketing.

Stonewall, he said, primarily worked with the hypertext markup language that is the base code for the website. CVB officials, he said, were essential in giving feedback to Stonewall so website visitors can have a positive experience.

“People want their information immediately,” Smith said.

He said the overall blue color theme of the site, an abundance of pictures, a clean look and easy-to-follow hyperlinks keep visitors interested.

Future updates also will be controlled by CVB officials. The Trail Tails blog, a subset of the main website, is one such page they can update.
