Christmas party slated in Moorefield
The town of Moorefield will hold a community Christmas tree decorating party at 4 p.m. Dec. 6 in the parking lot at the center of town, Main Street and Winchester Avenue.
The 20-foot tree will have lights and a star at the top. Members of the community are asked to bring ornaments. Hand-made ornaments can contain tributes to someone or something.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children, so they can see their ornament placed on the tree.
A parade will be held the next day, Dec. 7, starting at 1:30 p.m., followed by a program in the town park.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Speakers will explain the significance of the Christmas tree, and there will be Christmas songs. The public is asked to bring candles.
Santa Claus and the elves will arrive in a horse and buggy, and Santa will light the tree. He will then move to the Mullin Hotel for a reception with the children.
There will be two pit fires on the patio for roasting marshmallows and making s’mores, and hot chocolate and coffee will be available. Santa will give presents to the children, and Christmas carols will be sung.
The events are free and open to all. Sponsors are the Moorefield Lions Club, Hardy County Historical Society, Hardy County Visitors Center and Hardy County Chamber of Commerce.
Those unable to attend can take their decorations to the law office of Bean and Bean, 116 Washington St. in Moorefield, or to the Hardy County Library on Main Street in Moorefield.
Donations to offset costs can be made to the Moorefield Lions Club, P.O. Box 30, Moorefield, WV 26836. Decorations can be mailed to Moorefield Lions Club, 116 Washington St. Moorefield, WV 26836.
