Senior Center to discuss depression
Do senior citizens suffer from depression and mood disorders? Come to the Lewis County Senior Citizens Center at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 for a special discussion on “Seniors and Depression.”
There will be a 30 minute DVD on mood disorders hosted by Tony Dow and followed by a discussion presented by Depression and Bipolar Support Aliance West Virginia. Free literature will be available to help with comprehension and to share with others about how to detect depression and mania.
A special speaker will also be at the next DBSA Upshur County meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 9. Bo Waddell, an addictions recovery coach, will be speaking on drug addictions. He will enlighten participants as to the dangers of pain killers, what opiates are, what a transition program is, how a transition program works, why there are cravings and what happens during the cravings. Families affected by a drug addiction won’t want to miss this special speaker.
The program will take place at the Hall Neighbor’s House at 66 College Avenue in Buckhannon. Seating is limited and refreshments will be served. Please call or email to attend. Diana Thompson can be reached at 304-472-1947 or by email at email@example.com.
The new Lewis County DBSA group will meet at 6 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The church is located on the corner of Second and Center streets in Weston. It has red doors. This is a sharing and caring group for those with depression and bipolar disorder and their family members. Members are free to share experiences or to just listen if they choose.
The meetings are free and confidential. Snacks are provided. For more information, call Lee Fallon at 304-269-5266.
