Sixth annual triathlon set

The sixth annual Stonewall Jackson Triathlon will be Aug. 16 at Stonewall Resort.

The race takes athletes for a 1,000-meter swim in Stonewall Jackson Lake, a 26-mile bike ride along local country roads and a 4-mile run through Stonewall Resort State Park.

In 2012, the race added the Corporate Challenge, a race class designed to allow teams of two or three athletes representing a company or business to compete against other company-sponsored teams.

Race organizers are expecting to see several corporate teams competing against each other on race day.

Registration is from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 15 at the lodge at Stonewall Resort, and from 6-7 a.m. Aug. 16 at the picnic pavilion near the Stonewall Resort Roanoke Activity Plaza. Participants may also register online at at any time.

This Triathlon is locally planned and organized by the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce. Jones Racing Company manages all race day activities. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Since this race has also been deemed the prestigious Best of the U.S. Qualifier Race, the only Triathlon in West Virginia to earn this recognition, winners will be eligible to compete nationally. Proceeds over the cost of the event benefit the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce.
