EDITOR’S NOTE: The Datebook is reserved for nonprofit, civic organizations. Unless otherwise noted, events listed should be considered free and open to the public. PROJECT CHRISTMAS APPLICATION: Helping Hand Clearinghouse is now taking applications for Project Christmas from 9-11:45 a.m. Mondays through Fridays through Oct. 31 at 105 First St. in Elkins. Applicants must provide proof of household income.

REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE: A consumer representative from the Attorney General’s Office will conduct public events throughout the north-central counties. The office representative will educate consumers on the latest scams in their area, provide tips on how to guard their personal information and answer questions about consumer protection settlements. Scheduled events are: Tuesday from 10-11 a.m., Lewis County Senior Center, 171 W. Second St., Weston; Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Lewis County Senior Nutrition Center, 6161 Main St., Jane Lew; Wednesday from 10-11 a.m., Upshur County Senior Center, 28 N. Kanawha St., Buckhannon; and Oct. 31 from 10:30-11:30 a.m., Barbour County Senior Center, 47 Church St., Philippi. The sessions are open to the public; reservations are not required. FLU SHOT CLINICS: Davis Medical Center will sponsor flu shot clinics at the following times: 4 p.m. Wednesday at DirectCare of Parsons; and 4 p.m. Thursday at Buckhannon Medical Care. A limited supply of 100 vaccines will be available at each location and will be given on a first come, first serve basis.

FLU CLINIC: Upshur County Health Department and James W. Curry Library and Park will sponsor a flu clinic from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at James W. Curry Library, 1721 Brooks Hill Road, French Creek. The immunization is free with most insurance providers but there is a fee for persons with no insurance. Some free vaccine for those meeting criteria. Be sure to bring your insurance cards and a photo ID. The Health Department will do the billing and send the information to your insurance provider for payment. BONNIE’S BUS: Bonnie’s Bus, a digital mammography center on wheels, will offer digital mammograms and breast care education to women from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday at St George Medical Clinic. For an appointment, call 304-478-3339. This is a service of West Virginia University Medicine and the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center.

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: The Davis & Elkins College Student Nurses Association will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Friday in Madden Student Center. Appointments and walk-in are welcome. Schedule your donation appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or registering online at redcrossblood.org.

RCARSE MEETING: Randolph County Association of Retired School Employees will meet at 5 p.m. Friday at Beverly United Methodist Church. Local legislatures have been invited to attend. PRO WRESTLING SHOW: Tygart Valley Fairs and Festivals will host its annual Pro Wrestling Show Saturday at Tygarts Valley High School. There will be an autograph session at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Bob’s Mini Mart featuring The Barbarian and other wrestlers. The show’s theme will be Halloween. Audience members may dress up and win prizes. There will be a Halloween Children’s Parade at 4:15 p.m. Line-up will be at the Mill Creek Water Plant on the Adolph Road. Trophies will be awarded.

HALLOWEEN FUN: Cass Scenic Railroad State Park will host its annual Halloween events Friday and Saturday. Events will include: Haunted Company House tours from 7-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Trick or Treat from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Company Houses in the park; costume contest begins at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Cass Community Center with crafts and activities continuing after the contest until 6 p.m.; and train ride begins at 6 p.m. Saturday. FALL BIRD WALK: Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge will host a fall bird walk at 8 a.m. Saturday.  Participants will join Casey Rucker at the Refuge Visitor Center, where binoculars will be provided. Most summer residents have departed, but the year-round birds are busy preparing for winter.

REIDBORD REUNION: The Reidbord reunion will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Nazarene Family Life Center. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish. All former employees are invited. For more information, call Betty Woods at 304-636-2741.

EAT A BITE FOR SIGHT: Hodgesville Lion Club will host a pancake, sausage and sausage gravy and biscuit day from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday at Warren District Community Center. The menu will consist of pancakes, regular and buckwheat, sausage, sausage gravy and biscuit and drinks. There also will be brooms for sale. HALLOWEEN HUSTLE: Halloween Hustle 5K Run 3K Walk will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Camp Pioneer near Beverly. Proceeds will benefit Beverly Elementary.

AMERICAN GIRL BINGO: American Girl bingo will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Elkins Recreation and Event Center. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. A limited number of tickets are being sold; contact Trenna Harlan at teharlan@k12.wv.us. Black-out tickets and concession will be sold at the event. Proceeds will go toward the fifth-grade trip at Midland Elementary.

VFW MENTAL WELLNESS CAMPAIGN: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 Buckhannon will host a Mental Health Wellness meeting for all veterans, non veterans and/or caregivers at 10 a.m. Saturday. HALLOWEEN SPOOKTAULAR: The Randolph County Community Arts Center will host its third annual Halloween Spooktaular from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature games, contests, a costume parade at 2 p.m. and snacks. Bring a can of unexpired, unopened food and enjoy an afternoon of Halloween fun and help those less fortunate. VOYAGES IN THE VALLEY, FALL INTO PHENOLOGY: Join Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge at 9 am. Sunday at the refuge visitor center for a walk to admire the changing fall foliage. Phenology is how animals and plants respond to the seasonal and cyclic changes in the environment.

MUSICAL PRESENTATION: Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church will host Luanna and the Appalachian Dulcimers at 11 a.m. Sunday.

TRUNK OR TREAT: First Baptist Church will host a safe and family friendly, not so spooky Trick or Treat from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at 412 Randolph Ave. in Elkins. Children ages through 12th grade are welcome to attend.

REPRESENTATIVE FROM U.S. SEN. JOE MANCHIN: A representative from Sen. Manchin’s Office will conduct public events throughout the state. Constituents will have an opportunity to discover how the senator’s office may help them and what the senator’s office provides through requests for assistance from government agencies. The office representative will educate consumers on the latest scams in their area, provide tips on how to guard their personal information and answer questions about consumer protection settlements. Scheduled events are: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 31, Grant County Senior Center, 111 Virginia Ave. in Petersburg. Regional Coordinator Peggy Hawse will be on site to assist constituents.

CITRUS FRUIT SALE: Elkins Area Bands will be taking orders for the annual citrus fruit sale through Nov. 17. To order fruit, see any Elkins High School or Elkins Middle School band student or call 304-636-2721. Pick-up of fruit will be Dec. 8.

THANKSGIVING BASKETS: Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 812 Thanksgiving Basket giveaway will start at 10 a.m. Nov. 19 at Elkins Walmart parking lot. To register, call Jake Roberts at 304-630-2288 by Nov. 11. You must preregister and provide a valid I.D. to pick up your basket.

SPAY TODAY: A local reduced-cost spay and neuter program, offers locations in nearby Hardy County. At the time of surgery, initial tests and shots can be obtained at lower rates, too. CHRISTMAS BAZAAR AND COUNTRY STORE: First United Methodist Church Women’s Christmas Bazaar will be Nov. 3. A luncheon will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crafters will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Country Store will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3 and from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 4.

CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE: Davis Medical Center Gift Garden will host a Christmas open house from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 and beginning at 9 a.m. Nov. 5. There will be a sign up for door prizes and refreshments while you shop.

ELIMINATION DINNER/DRAWING: American Legion Post 29 will host an elimination dinner/drawing Nov. 5 in the Banquet Hall, enter by the Fourth Street entrance. Social hour will be from 6-7 p.m. Dinner will begin at 7 p.m. with the drawings at 7:30 p.m. Tickets include dinner and complimentary drinks during social hour. A cash bar will be available at 7:30 p.m. Each ticket admits one person — no guests without ticket. Tickets can be purchased now at 326 Railroad Ave. in Elkins. PRIZE BINGO: Prize bingo fundraiser to benefit Ranae Chewning will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 5 at Coalton Volunteer Fire Department. Doors will open at noon. Only 120 tickets will be sold. BUCKWHEAT AND SAUSAGE BREAKFAST: The Men of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church will host a buckwheat and sausage breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Nov. 5 in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The menu will consist of buckwheat cakes, sausage, coffee and juice. Eggs also will be available.

PANCAKE/SAUSAGE AND GRAVY BREAKFAST: The Tennerton Lions Club will host a pancake/sausage and sausage and gravy biscuit breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Tennerton United Methodist Church. Carry outs will be available. Proceeds will benefit community projects.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT SHOW: Beverly Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary will host its Christmas Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5.

BUCKWHEAT BREAKFAST: Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5781 and Auxiliary will host a buckwheat breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 5 at the post home in Harman. The menu will consist of buckwheat and pancakes, sausage, sausage gravy, fried potatoes, eggs, coffee, milk and juice.
