FRUIT SALE: Tygarts Valley Middle High School junior class is taking orders for its annual fruit sale through Nov. 14. To place an order, contact a member of the junior class or call the school at 304-335-4575.

PRE-SCHOOL AND PRE-K APPLICATIONS: Upshur County Head Start is accepting applications for 3- and 4-year-old children for Pre-school and Pre-k. Services are free to income eligible families. For more information, call 304-472-2016 or pick up an application at 8 Cleveland Ave. in Buckhannon.

PROJECT CHRISTMAS APPLICATION: Helping Hand Clearinghouse is now taking applications for Project Christmas from 9-11:45 a.m. Mondays through Fridays through Oct. 31 at 105 First St. in Elkins. Applicants must provide proof of household income.

PUMPKIN ROLL ORDERS: Valley Livestock 4-H club will be taking orders for homemade pumpkin rolls through Nov. 19. The rolls will be baked Nov. 19 at Camp Pioneer in the Agriculture Building and can be picked up after 4 p.m. For more information or to order a pumpkin roll, see any Valley Livestock 4-H member or call Jaime and Jessica Swecker at 304-339-2866.

REPRESENTATIVE FROM U.S. SEN. JOE MANCHIN: A representative from Sen. Manchin’s Office will conduct public events throughout the state. Constituents will have an opportunity to discover how the senator’s office may help them and what the senator’s office provides through requests for assistance from government agencies. The office representative will educate consumers on the latest scams in their area, provide tips on how to guard their personal information and answer questions about consumer protection settlements. Scheduled events are: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today, Grant County Senior Center, 111 Virginia Ave. in Petersburg. Regional Coordinator Peggy Hawse will be on site to assist constituents.

HARVEST PARTY: New Life Church in Beverly will host a Harvest Party from 6-8 p.m. today in the downstairs fellowship hall. Children and their parents are invited to have free hot dogs, popcorn, hot chocolate and more. Games, pumpkin decorating and other activities will make a great time for children of all ages. REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE: A consumer representative from the Attorney General’s Office will conduct public events throughout the north-central counties. The office representative will educate consumers on the latest scams in their area, provide tips on how to guard their personal information and answer questions about consumer protection settlements. Scheduled events are: from 10:30-11:30 a.m. today, Barbour County Senior Center, 47 Church St., Philippi. The sessions are open to the public; reservations are not required. TRUNK-OR-TREAT: The Davis & Elkins College Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host its second annual trunk-or-treat event for the community from 5-7 p.m. today in The McDonnell Center parking lot on the college campus. Cars and trucks decorated for the season will line The McDonnell Center parking lot, and members of the Davis & Elkins FCA and Athletic Department, in costume, will hand out candy and treats at each station. CITRUS FRUIT SALE: Elkins Area Bands will be taking orders for the annual citrus fruit sale through Nov. 17. To order fruit, see any Elkins High School or Elkins Middle School band student or call 304-636-2721. Pick-up of fruit will be Dec. 8.

THANKSGIVING BASKETS: Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 812 Thanksgiving Basket giveaway will start at 10 a.m. Nov. 19 at Elkins Walmart parking lot. To register, call Jake Roberts at 304-630-2288 by Nov. 11. You must preregister and provide a valid I.D. to pick up your basket.

SPAY TODAY: A local reduced-cost spay and neuter program, offers locations in nearby Hardy County. At the time of surgery, initial tests and shots can be obtained at lower rates, too. TAMARACK PRESENTATION: Mountain Arts District will host a presentation by Tamarack Foundation for the Arts at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Wood Technology Center in Elkins. Discussions will include opportunities available for artists and aspirations of artists in the region.

FINANCIAL AID NIGHT: Alderson Broaddus University will  host financial aid night from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Pickett Library. Alderson Broaddus financial aid staff will be available to help students fill out their free applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students that attend should bring their FAS ID and their 2015 tax information.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR AND COUNTRY STORE: First United Methodist Church Women’s Christmas Bazaar will be Thursday. A luncheon will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crafters will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Country Store will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

VALLEY LIVESTOCK 4-H CLUB MEETING: Valley Livestock 4-H club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Russell Memorial Library in Mill Creek. Following a short business meeting, members will enjoy a presentation from a representative of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on endangered aquatic animals. After the presentation, members will be making crafts to use for table decoration for the upcoming 4-H Year Kick-off  and Awards Program. New members are encouraged to attend. WORLD COMMUNITY DAY: Elkins Are Church Women United will celebrate World Community Day at noon Friday at Elkins Church of the Brethren at 708 W. Central St. next to Elkins Middle School. New pastors to the area are invited to attend. Those attending are asked to bring a salad or sandwiches.

AUCTION: An auction will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at George Ward School. Items for sale are all new merchandise from Cranberry, Pa. Concessions will be sold to benefit the Mill Creek Community Building.

CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE: Davis Medical Center Gift Garden will host a Christmas open house from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and beginning at 9 a.m. Nov. 5. There will be a sign up for door prizes and refreshments while you shop.

ELIMINATION DINNER/DRAWING: American Legion Post 29 will host an elimination dinner/drawing Nov. 5 in the Banquet Hall, enter by the Fourth Street entrance. Social hour will be from 6-7 p.m. Dinner will begin at 7 p.m. with the drawings at 7:30 p.m. Tickets include dinner and complimentary drinks during social hour. A cash bar will be available at 7:30 p.m. Each ticket admits one person — no guests without ticket. Tickets can be purchased now at 326 Railroad Ave. in Elkins. MID-AUTUMN BIRD WALK: Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge will host a mid-autumn bird walk at 8 a.m. Nov. 5. It’s a time of year when you never know what birds you’ll see. Join Casey Rucker at the refuge visitor center, where binoculars will be provided.

PRIZE BINGO: Prize bingo fundraiser to benefit Ranae Chewning will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 5 at Coalton Volunteer Fire Department. Doors will open at noon. Only 120 tickets will be sold. BUCKWHEAT AND SAUSAGE BREAKFAST: The Men of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church will host a buckwheat and sausage breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Nov. 5 in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The menu will consist of buckwheat cakes, sausage, coffee and juice. Eggs also will be available.

PANCAKE/SAUSAGE AND GRAVY BREAKFAST: The Tennerton Lions Club will host a pancake/sausage and sausage and gravy biscuit breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Tennerton United Methodist Church. Carry outs will be available. Proceeds will benefit community projects.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT SHOW: Beverly Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary will host its Christmas Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5.

BUCKWHEAT BREAKFAST: Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5781 and Auxiliary will host a buckwheat breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 5 at the post home in Harman. The menu will consist of buckwheat and pancakes, sausage, sausage gravy, fried potatoes, eggs, coffee, milk and juice.

VERA BRADLEY BINGO: Buckhannon-Upshur High School band will host Vera Bradley bingo at 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Buckhannon Moose Lodge. Doors will open at 1 p.m. Limited tickets will be sold. Other activities will include 50/50 raffle, concessions, auction and a chance to win a pass for six to the West Virginia Wildlife Center. The proceeds will go toward the band’s trip to Disney in December.

PANCAKE AND SAUSAGE FEED: New Life Church will host a pancake and sausage feed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at the church located south of Beverly. Carryout will be available. For more information, call Harvey Taylor at 304-338-2087.

CRAFT SHOW: Elkins High School Student Council will host its annual craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5. More vendors than ever before will be at the 2016 craft show.
