Ghost tales on tap in Tucker County

DAVIS — It’s a weekend of ghosts, ghastly tales and hauntings in the high mountain region of Tucker County this weekend.

Blackwater Falls State Park presents “Mystery, Mayhem and Murder in West Virginia – Ghost Stories” Friday evening. The evening of ghost stories that reveal the darker side of Appalachian folklore begins at 7:30 p.m. in Blackwater Falls State Park Lodge, and is presented by special guest, Jo Ann Dadisman.

Part of a storytelling duo, Mountain Echos, and member of the West Virginia Storytelling Guild, Dadisman resides in Preston County and is retired from West Virginia University where she worked as co-director of the National Writing Project and was a member of the English Department faculty.

Enjoy the ghost stories, the mysteries and the “un” normal events that shaped an emerging state and its people. This presentation is not recommended for the very young or faint-hearted. The event is open to the public.   Make it a weekend and stay for the 20th annual Halloween Party and Haunted House that opens at 7 p.m. Saturday.

According to organizer, Paulita Cousin, there’ll be lots of scary fun with costume judging and games for children to seventh grade followed by a walk through the Haunted area, if you dare.

Also open to the public at no cost, this event is one not to be missed.
