PHILIPPI —  The Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Members of the Month have been announced for January.

Kevin Lyons is a Barbour County native and graduate of Philip Barbour High School. He completed a bachelor’s degree in recreational leadership from Alderson-Broaddus College. He has been the owner of the Medallion Restaurant since 1992, Magic by Kevin since 1996, Fox’s Pizza since 2001 and Chuck Wagon Soda since 2012.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of BC Bank, the Chamber of Commerce and the Philippi United Methodist Church.

The Medallion Restaurant, located at 7 South Main St. in Philippi, features complete home-cooked meals, sandwiches, salads and pastas, as well as offering a full breakfast menu at any time of the day. The Medallion is known for its buffets, weekday lunches, Wednesday and Friday dinners, Saturday breakfast bar and Sunday brunch, according to Lyons.

“We have lots of repeat customers,” he said.

The Medallion Restaurant is located directly across the street from Premier Bank.

The Medallion’s large private dining room can host groups of up to 70, dining from the hot buffet or ordering from the menu. More information is available on Facebook, or by calling 304-457-3463. Janet Shaffer is the front end manager.

A Philippi native and daughter of J. R. “Pickle” Jones, who was a part-owner of the Mt. Vernon Cemetery since 1986, Vickie Jones graduated from PBHS and attended Fairmont State College. She began as an administrative assistant with the family owned business in 1989 where she worked with her father for 25 years until his passing. Currently, Elton E. “Butch” Bryan is the president, Murrell J. Bryan, vice president, and Vickie Bryan Jones is the secretary-treasurer.

The Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery is located three miles South of Philippi, on U.S. Route 119, and encompasses 37 developed acres. An 88-unit mausoleum was completed in 1997 and contains 64 crypts and 24 cremation niches. At this time there are approximately 3,100 burials at the cemetery.

Jones said she is “honored to help families choose their favorite burial site and select a memorial for their loved ones.”

She is a member of the People’s Chapel Church where she served for five years as treasurer, conducts Bible Study and enjoys decorating the church windows.
