Pageant scheduled for March
ELKINS — The road to Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen begins at the local level.
An official preliminary to Miss West Virginia and Miss West Virginia’s Outstanding Teen, Miss Elkins Area and Miss Elkins Area’s Outstanding Teen, will take place March 4 at Gandy Dancer Theater in Elkins.
The winners of these local contests will represent Elkins at the Miss West Virginia/Outstanding Teen Pageant in June in Morgantown. The competition is also open to Davis & Elkins, West Virginia Wesleyan, Alderson Broaddus University and area high school students.
Teens are young ladies ages 13 to 17 (not a high school senior). They will compete in interview, onstage question, physical fitness, a 90-second talent presentation and evening gown competitions. Miss contestants are young ladies, ages 17 to 24, and they compete in interview, onstage question, lifestyle fitness, a 90-second talent presentation and evening gown. Both Miss and Teen contestants must provide a one-page, community service platform statement and a resume that will be previewed by the panel of judges. The community service platform statement should pertain to a community service project the contestants are actively involved in.
Young ladies who are interested in competing or individuals who would like to serve on the local committee for Miss Elkins Area and Miss Elkins Area’s Outstanding Teen can contact the local coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the Miss Elkins Area Facebook page and leave a message. If enough contestants compete, the titles of Miss Randolph County (eight contestants) and Miss Randolph County’s Outstanding Teen (six contestants) will also be awarded.
