Kindergarten registration announced
ELKINS — Randolph County Schools will be conducting the registration process for incoming kindergarten students beginning in February and continuing through the month of April.
Children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, are eligible for enrolling in kindergarten for 2017-2018. Parents need to be aware that if their child attended pre-school this year at one of the Randolph County collaborative pre-school sites they do not have to participate in the registration process. Pre-school teachers, kindergarten teachers, and family resource coordinators will be assisting parents and pre-school students with the transition to kindergarten during the spring semester of the current school year. Parents will need to make certain that their child has all of the required immunizations before school begins in August.
Parents of 4 year olds who did not attend a Randolph County collaborative pre-school this year will need to go to the elementary school located in their attendance zone and pick up an information packet from the school principal or secretary. Application packets will be available to be picked up at the schools beginning March 1.
Parents need to complete the forms that are in the application packet and return them when they attend their school’s application day in March or April. Parents also need to bring along their child’s Medicaid or insurance card, certified live birth certificate, immunization record, health check physical form and dental screening from their child’s doctor/dentist.
Parents will go over all of the completed forms with the school staff during the application day conference.
Students need to accompany their parents on application day so that they can meet the school staff, tour the school and complete speech screenings and activities. This activity will help make the transition from home to school easier for incoming kindergarteners.
