Winter fair slated in Barbour County

PHILIPPI — The Barbour County Community Educational Outreach Service’s Winter Fair is gearing up for another year of fun and entertainment. The Winter Fair will be March 3-4 at the Belington Fire Department in Belington. The excitement will start at 8 a.m. and go on until 6 p.m. each day.

In 2016, the CEOS clubs celebrated their 90th birthday. The Barbour County Community Outreach Service is a nonprofit organization that has five clubs throughout the county. They support many organizations such as Ronald McDonald House, Adopt a Highway, ambulance and fire departments, libraries, domestic violence Awareness, domestic violence shelters, cancer awareness, Relay For Life and many more. Officials will have a full menu of homemade goodies that includes beans and cornbread, pork barbecue, hot dogs, vegetable soup, ham sandwiches, potato salad, coleslaw, nachos, pickled eggs and baked goods. Biscuits and gravy will be served at 8 a.m. There is a craft/vendor bazaar that includes 40 tables of various items. Saturday is Kid’s Day at the fair from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be dime pitching, prize wheel spinning, card crafts and much more for the children to do.

There will be live entertainment both days and a cake walk March 4.

John Loyd and Gary Golden will do chair bottoms at the Winter Fair. Loyd has three stools he can sell and then will have supplies for people to do chair bottoms using either sea grass or splits.

He said if anyone wants to do caning, they will need to contact him so he can get measurements and supplies needed. Loyd’s number is 304-457-3063.

Anyone who would like to participate or would like additional information can call the WVU Extension Service at 304-457-3254.
