Barbour County Community Health Fair set

PHILIPPI — The Barbour County Community Health Fair will be from 7-11 a.m. Saturday at Broaddus Hospital. This event offers a host of free health screenings, discounted lab profiles and other tests and health and wellness information.

The Broaddus Hospital laboratory will be conducting blood tests from 7-10 a.m. Health panels include complete blood count, lipid levels and comprehensive metabolic chemistry.

Additional values which can be included are PSA (prostate specific antigen), TSH and HA1C. Overnight fasting is recommended, and blood test results are mailed directly to the patient.

The Radiology Department will offer aortic and carotid artery screenings.

Low-dose CT lung screenings also will be available. Appointments for these tests are required and may be scheduled by calling 304-457-8162.

Women’s HealthCare providers will offer free pap smear and breast exams. Pap tests are available for women who have not had a pap test in the last 12 months and who have not had a hysterectomy.

Women’s health screenings will be provided at their office location at 6 Healthcare Drive, Suite 2 on campus, behind Broaddus Hospital. Appointments can be made ahead by calling 304-637-3185. Walk-in appointments will be taken as well.

Additional screenings to be offered include blood pressure, blood sugar, stroke risk assessment, hearing, colon cancer, pulmonary function, cardiac risk, diabetes, sleep apnea and others.

The Barbour County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a drug-take back and will accept expired, over-the-counter and discontinued medications.

No controlled substances, sharps or liquid over 4 ounces will be collected.

Other health professionals will be on hand to provide information and education on hearing loss, nutrition, diabetes and heart healthy recipes, skin cancer, smoking cessation, advance directives and living wills, hospice care, adult immunizations, domestic violence, infant and youth health services, drug and alcohol prevention, exercise programs and more.

Representatives of the 100 Miles in 100 Days summer walking program will be available with information and registration forms. Healthcare partners and community agencies participating include Broaddus Hospital, Myers Clinic, Belington Clinic, Barbour County Health Department, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Mountain Hospice, Women’s Aid in Crisis, Youth Health Services, the Health Plan, North Central WV Community Action, Birth to Three, Women’s HealthCare, Total Therapy Center, Advanced Hearing Solutions, Broaddus Nutrition Services, Jennifer Duvall, PA-C, Alderson Broaddus University Nursing Program, Davis Medical Center Cancer Care Center, WV Attorney General’s Office, Barbour County Sheriff’s Department, Philippi City Police, Davis Health System Foundation, Broaddus Hospital Stroke Support Group, the Family Resource Network and Mansfield Place.
