Foundation scholarships offered

PHILIPPI — For the 2017 scholarship cycle, the Barbour County Community Foundation and the Tucker Community Foundation have decided to do a joint application for their scholarships for students in Barbour County. This will allow a student, either high school, college or non-traditional, to apply for more than 50 different scholarships.

More than $75,000 will be awarded from endowed scholarship funds, pass-through donations and unrestricted income of the foundations. Applicants are encouraged to apply even if their educational needs do not align with a particular fund. Awards will range from $500 to $10,000, with most in the $1,000 range.

New this year, the Tucker Community Foundation will be awarding a $10,000 Smith and Patterson Pass-Through Scholarship.

The award is intended for a student enrolling in post-secondary education or a trade school. Good grades are important but not the only criteria; work experience or volunteer experience is considered and financial need is a consideration.

The W. Robert and Dolores J. McDaniel Scholarship will help a Philip Barbour High School graduate attend the nursing program at Alderson Broaddus University. The one-year scholarship is for more than $1,000 per semester.

High school seniors, college students, students attending technical schools and other non-traditional students (e.g., adults returning to school) are encouraged to apply for a scholarship regardless of their field of study.

To download an application, visit http://barbourcountycf.org/pdfs/2017PBHSScholarshipApp.pdf, www.tuckerfoundation.net/scholarships or contact the high school guidance counselor.

The deadline to apply is April 15 For more information, call the Tucker Community Foundation office at 304-478-2930.
