BARBOUR — The Belington Medical Clinic and The Myers Clinic in Philippi have been named the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Members of the Month for March.

Belington Community Medical Services Association was founded in 1973 and strives to provide this area a high level of quality, cost-effective primary health care. The Belington Clinic is a federally qualified health center that provides medical care to patients with insurance, Medicare and/or Medicaid, and for those without health insurance through the clinic’s Health Access program. For those patients without medication coverage and those with high insurance deductibles, the Clinic offers a low cost medication program in cooperation with Mace’s Pharmacy. The Belington Clinic stresses a philosophy of access to health care for all people and the importance of regular preventive care. Current providers at the Clinic are Dr. Ariel Valentine, Dr. Steve High, Dr. John Henderson, Tom Harward, PA-C; Karen Spotloe, PA-C; Jennifer Parker, PA-C; Mark Harris, PA-C; Joyce Wilson, AFNP; and Patti Hackney, CNM.

BCMSA also operates the Belington Wellness Center and the Brandon Wellness Center. The Belington Wellness Center is located adjacent to the clinic and offers a wide variety of exercise equipment, exercise programs and a swimming pool. The Brandon Wellness Center is a school-based health center that offers a variety of nursing, preventive and acute care medical services to the students and staff at Philip Barbour High School.

The Myers Clinic (Hospital) was founded in 1933 by Dr. J.W. Myers and his two sons Dr. Hu Myers and Dr. Karl Myers. The building contained 70 hospital beds, doctor’s offices, operating room, x-ray department, laboratory, library and a dining room. The Myers family is legendary in Barbour County not only for this Clinic, but for their work with Alderson Broaddus University and Broaddus Hospital. Currently, The Myers Clinic, located on the Broaddus Hospital campus, is a family practice medical clinic that provides medical care to patients with insurance, Medicare and/or Medicaid, and for those without health insurance through the clinic’s Health Access program. For those patients without medication coverage and those with high insurance deductibles, the Clinic offers a low cost medication program in cooperation with Mace’s Pharmacy. Current providers of the clinic are Dr. Cecil Holbert, Dr. Pete Palko, Susan Ketchem, PA-C; Jessica Weiner, PA-C; Jessica Sias, AFNP; Jamie Pingley, PA-C; and Mark Harris, PA-C.

In July of 2016, Belington Community Medical Services Association purchased The Myers Clinic from Dr. Cecil Holbert after several years of discussions and trying to identify a way the two organization could work together to serve Barbour County. Since BCMSA is classified as a federally-qualified health center and is afforded many benefits as such, the two organizations decided to move forward under the ownership of BCMSA so those benefits could be passed on to the clients of The Myers Clinic. The chief executive officer of the new association is Chamber of Commerce President Eric Ruf.
